Nell Gray began as a shared dream.
My mother and I both studied at Michigan State University’s College of Human Ecology, drawn there by the same passion for interior design. We followed different paths after graduating but spent a lifetime circling back to the same conversations—about homes, materials, light, and the quiet joy of making things by hand. When she retired, she built a successful design business of her own. The plan was always for me to join her one day.
Life had other plans.
This site isn’t a business, a portfolio, or a promise of what comes next. It’s a place to document a home my husband and I are building ourselves, to think out loud through design decisions, and to honor a love of design that has always been part of who I am.
Nell Gray is named for my grandmother.
The journey is for my mom, Joy.
And the work here is simply to notice, remember, and create.
